Taking Control of Your Destiny
Over the past 20+ years of helping people realize their dreams of business ownership, I have seen the economy go through cycles that, for most, are just cycles. There have been several major disruptions along the way — 9/11, the recession of 2008, and the COVID-19 pandemic, to name a few. Did these cycles define how everyone does business, or was it the ability to pivot by the operators of those businesses that drove success? You have heard it before… adapt and conquer. This too shall pass. Survival of the fittest. Those who got up in the morning and took control of their destiny coined these phrases.
Four things tend to happen after a major economic disruption.
- There is pent-up demand for goods and services.
- The businesses that do not survive vacate brick and mortar locations, driving landlords to offer incentives to fill them with new tenants.
- As the government works to stimulate the economy, money tends to become more accessible.
- Your corporate job may or may not still be there, as there is no real security when you depend on someone else to earn your living.
Why Now?
The investigation and funding of franchise opportunities takes 4-8 weeks. Once the decision is made to move forward with the perfect franchise for you, there is training that could take another 4-6 weeks, depending on the concept. If there is real estate needed, you can add another 3-6 months. By the time you are ready to open your doors, conditions will have settled, and you need to take advantage of this time to be ready for business.
Why Not?
The jobs of today are not secure and obviously neither is the market. You have no control over either, and there has never been a better time to control your destiny. You will adapt and conquer. This too shall pass. You will survive.
